While we can understand the financial advantages for the switch and may be saddened by the news we must accept that athletes will look to their personal sporting career paths. Forget the media fuss. Let's not forget to say "THANKS PAUL" for the many great results you have pulled for New Zealand. We have been proud of your many fine performances. We will be sorry to see you go. Paul thanks for having flown the Kiwi flag proudly. We hope you don't go but if that is your decision then we wish you as much success as can be achieved without passing people in Kiwi singlets. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ARTICLE ON PAUL AMEY'S SWITCH TO BRITAIN: from Katherine Williams, Triathlon Digest KWilliams@TriathlonCentral.com The New Zealand Press Association reports today that Kiwi Paul Amey, runner-up in the 1998 ITU World Triathlon Championships, will declare himself for Britain before a January 1 deadline to be considered for inclusion in the Commonwealth Games 2002 for England. The piece, carried in today's New Zealand Herald online, quotes Amey: "It's a hard decision for me to make, but the bottom line is it comes down to making a living. I'm still going to be doing this sport for at least another six years, so it is probably better for me to base myself in Great Britain and to become part of the European [triathlon] community. I've made a bit of a name for myself in Europe so I'm better off to try and pick up some more sponsors over there." Amey, 27, has already spoken with British Triathlon Association officials. He would qualify for dual citizenship because his father was born in England.
