TriUpdate Special: Kiwi wins Ironman Switzerland - 07 Aug 2000

Tara-Lee Marshall of New Zealand won Sunday's Ironman Switzerland in a
time of 9 hours 15 minutes 57 seconds.
Marshall is the first  New Zealander to win an Ironman distance triathlon
since Sue Clark won Ironman New Zealand in 1995.
Last year Marshall  finished second at Ironman Switzerland in a time of
9.52.17
Marshall finished the 3.8km swim in the top ten woman.  Over the 180km
cycle Marshall moved into second place 45 seconds down on Australian Robyn
Roocke. Roocke placed third in this years Air New Zealand Ironman.
Marshall had to contend with continual pouring rain during the 42.2 km
marathon.  Marshall and Roocke ran much of the distance side by side. 
Over the final 10km's Marshall moved clear to claim a decisive 11 minute
victory.
Swiss star Olivier Bernhard took out the mens title ahead of Hungarian
Peter Kropko.  Bernhard finished third at the Air New Zealand Ironman
earlier this year behind German Thomas Hellrigel and rising Kiwi
triathlete Cameron Brown.
Marshall hails from Taupo the home of Ironman New Zealand.  Her next
scheduled event is Ironman Canada on August 27th. Following her win in
Switzerland Marshall may change plans to focus instead on October Ironman
World Championship event in Hawaii.
