FIONA'S POWERMAN FRANCE WIN
From Eric Schwartz's http://www.duathlon.com:
The Powerman Series made its traditional stop in the French Pyrénéés last
weekend.
Fiona Docherty (NZL) left no doubt about her role as the women's favorite,
finishing the first 12km run over steep hills 57 seconds ahead of Helen
Purdy (GBR). The challenging bike course followed routes previously used by
the Tour de France and gave the athletes an impressive view of the Pyrénées.
The lead grew to almost five minutes on the second run as she went on to her
second career Powerman victory. Purdy followed in second, and Antje
Strothmann (GER) finished third.
For the men Dirk Strothmann (GER) was the early leader on the first run but
fell behind with cramps at the end of the run. After the first major cycle
climb, Nicolas Lebrun (FRA) and Vincent Aldebert (FRA) broke away from the
field, and then Lebrun dropped Aldebert on the second climb, the Col de
Mente (1349 m above sea-level). His lead over Aldebert was 1:05, followed by
Strothmann at 2:15 and Henrik Svarre (DEN) at 3:30. Lebrun went on for the
win, followed by Aldebert in second, and Alcino Serras of Portugal overtook
Strothman for third.
