Bayfair Unichem Pharmacy Triathlon
Date: 7 March 1999
Venue: Mount Maunganui
Distance: 750 m swim / 20 km cycle / 5 km run

Race Report:

Over 200 individuals and 50 teams contested the 11th annual Bayfair Unichem Pharmacy Triathlon held at Mount Maunganui on Sunday. Swimming conditions were perfect, but a blustery north easterly made the return to transition on the cycle leg very testing. Veteran triathlete Cindy Taylor was hard pushed to stay ahead of 17 year old Chanelle Owen from Gisborne, but eventually retained her title by a mere 5 seconds.

In the mens race, James Morgan led all the way to record a comfortable victory over Graeme Pearson and Andrew Vane. Josh Dyer showed his potential with a fine fourth place, easily winning the junior race from visiting German athlete Hauke Horstmann.
